Gotta blame the 2009 recession for Empanada Lady’s success. As the corporate world decided to let me go after a long, fifteen year relationship, this little lady sent herself to culinary school to start a new career path, not knowing where it would lead to.
While attending school I started making empanadas for the local merchants and for my friends and family. A little catering here and there, then finally my small time big break (I thought) I landed an account with a pretty hip local bar, but that didn’t last too long. That gave me a taste of what it would be like to have my own business. Upon completion of my culinary program I obtained my degree and figured I should put my degree into action.
I gained some practical experience out there, but I was not happy, I wanted to work for myself. I was hungry and determined to continue to dream about having my own business. Just not the empanada business I have today. One day I was looking through a work search engine and came across an ad about becoming your own boss, have your own business in the farmers market industry. I thought “Okay, why not…?”
Farmers markets have become very popular these past years so I decided why not take a look at the opportunity and go for it. I began to sell someone else’s products, learning the trades of the business. I learned so much that from one season to the next, Empanada Lady became a house hold name in the Farmers Market world. 2013 was the year Empanada Lady became the local markets most happening booth, thanks to all of our customers.
